Who should register for GST?
Businesses with a turnover above the GST threshold (Rs. 40 lakhs for goods, Rs. 20 lakhs for services) need to register for GST. Certain businesses are required to register for GST regardless of their turnover, such as inter-state suppliers, e-commerce operators, and agents of a supplier.
How is GST calculated?
GST can be calculated by multiplying the taxable amount by the GST rate. If CGST & SGST/UTGST is to be applied, then CGST and SGST both amounts are half of the total GST amount.
If you have an amount that already includes GST, you can calculate the GST excluding amount with the formula: GST excluding amount = GST including amount/(1+ GST rate/100).
For example, if the GST including amount is Rs. 525 and the GST rate is 5% then the GST excluding amount = 525/(1+5/100) = 525/1.05 = 500.
What are the penalties for not complying with GST?
Non-compliance with GST regulations can lead to penalties. For example, not registering for GST can lead to a penalty of 10% of the tax amount due or Rs. 10,000, whichever is higher. There are also penalties for not filing GST returns on time.
How to make calculation of GST in case of reverse charge?
In the case of reverse charge, the calculation is the same. For example, if you have purchased goods worth Rs. 5,000 and you are required to pay GST on reverse charge at the rate of 18% then you have to pay a GST on reverse charge of Rs. 900 (5,000 x 18%).
If CGST & SGST is to be levied then CGST & SGST of Rs. 450 each is to be paid.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
